Christo, I totally agree with you. According to the ref. you added, it is clear that Willem Schalksz van der Merwe did not build the farmhouse at Kronendal, except if there is definitive proof otherwise.

It is unlikely that the farmhouse on Kronendal has been built by Willem Schalksz van der Merwe (abt.1648-1716) since he relocated to a new farm in the Drakenstein area around 1707. The farmhouse currently pictured on the main page as image 6 was most probably built much later. It is estimated that the building was erected by either Willem Basson who owned the land in 1713, or more likely, by Jacobus Bierman who became the owner in 1777.

I suggest that a note be added to image 6 to this effect, or better, that the image be deleted to avoid confusion.

On 1677-03-23 Willem van der Merwe and Pieter van der Westhuizen got permission to cultivate the land and during 1681 the contract was cancelled and Kronendal was registered in the name of Willem Schalk zoon van der Merwe.
